That decision led to the creation of Levitate, a Bangalore-based design store that she successfully ran for nearly 18 years.

Levitate became more than a retail space.

Known for curating jewelry, crafts, and design-led products from across India, the store earned recognition not only for its collections but for the stories and cultural narratives it brought together. Through this journey, Meghna developed a unique perspective, looking at products and traditions not simply for what they are, but for what they could become.

Years later, when she revisited the idea of the bindi, she saw something others had overlooked.

Not just tradition.

Not just nostalgia.

But an untapped opportunity.

That instinct to reimagine what had been left unexplored became the foundation of her next chapter.

Beyond Product Innovation: Changing Self-Perception

The larger challenge was mindset.

She realised early that hesitation around bold self-expression often had little to do with fashion and everything to do with how women viewed themselves.

As Meghna puts it:

“We are our biggest critics.”

That understanding became central to what she was building.

Her work evolved beyond creating contemporary bindis and accessories. It became about encouraging women to embrace individuality, express themselves without hesitation, and feel comfortable being seen.

The response, she says, has been deeply personal.

Among the most meaningful milestones are the messages she receives from women who describe feeling more confident, expressive, and empowered through her designs.

For Meghna, these stories carry more weight than numbers.

Because they reflect something larger than business success. They reflect impact.

Building Acceptance at Scale

Like many founder journeys, Meghna’s path has been shaped by moments that validated both the vision and the risk behind it.

One such milestone came when actor Kareena Kapoor was seen wearing her designs.

The moment marked more than celebrity recognition.

For Meghna, the challenge was never limited to designing a product.

It represented a shift in acceptance.

What had once been considered niche or unconventional was beginning to enter mainstream conversation, helping reshape how people viewed the bindi and its place in modern identity.

Her journey has also taken her into unfamiliar territory, including an appearance on Shark Tank India, an experience that challenged her comfort zone while expanding her perspective as an entrepreneur.

Each milestone, however, reinforced the same belief:

Having spent more than half her life as an entrepreneur, Meghna sees business as something deeply personal.

She credits much of her resilience to a strong support system that stood beside her through challenges and transitions.
